VP Debate Winner, America, Uncertain
By Steve Cave
Who won the VP debate? I think it all depends on who you wanted to see win. Which, to me, means that no one won.
LaToya saw Biden win, and is as sure as she can be. Of course she is, she wanted Biden to win, and she even said that she was watching the debate with the hope that Palin would slip up, like in the Couric interview (which, if you haven’t seen the SNL version, you should. It’s hilarious!).
But I don’t agree. I don’t think that this was some clear win for Biden, and I’m not on anyone’s payroll to convince you of something that didn’t happen. I don’t think anyone won the debate. It was painfully similar to the presidential debate … no one really drew blood, and no one really failed.
I’ve heard several women compliment and complain about Palin’s use of her personality and likableness. Some women seem to hate it, for one personal reason or another. I heard one woman in an interview say that she liked the way Palin seemed like someone she could just sit down and talk with. There are some deep forces at work inside the American woman’s mind, especially when dealing with looking at another woman in power. While I can see that they play a huge role in decision making, I’m not a good one to comment on it. But I do think it’s strangely distracting from the real issues, and feels petty, whether you are for or against Palin.
And so, who won this debate? Palin and Biden both answered well, and both held their own. I think faithful party members will find little snippets here and there to say that their side won, but I don’t think it’s true. For the undecided voters out there, I think we’re going to need to see a little more. This feels like a race that’s going to be run right up to the end.
