Joe Biden, Crazy As Usual

Thursday October 23, 2008

By Steve Cave

I do not understand why Joe Biden is allowed to speak – at all. I’ve heard a lot about how Palin might be a liability to McCain, but what about this Biden character? He’s crazy!

We talked about how insane he was back when he was chosen. Then, he sort of dropped off the radar in favor of Sarah Palin. She’s more exciting. And then on Sunday, Biden goes off and makes a speech, trying to raise money for the Democratic Party. He said:

“Mark my words: It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy…The world is looking. We’re about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America. Watch, we’re going to have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.”

WHAT?! What in the world?? Why is this guy allowed out of his cage? I mean, seriously, what in the world was he thinking?! Promising trials and tribulations to come, and saying they’re going to be “generated”. What in the world does THAT mean?

The McCain crew has jumped on this, making a big deal about how we don’t need a president who requires “on the job training.” Good point, but I really don’t know if the Republican Party can make much more of this than it already is. It might just blow over, it probably will, but still … who is this Biden guy, anyway? I saw Sarah Palin talking on TV last night about how, if she had said something like this, the news would have ripped her to pieces! Of course they would, Sarah. You represent the party that’s been in power for 8 years. You guys are going to need to really wow everyone to get in, and so far, all I see you doing next year is getting your own reality show (cool idea, huh!?).

But seriously, Palin is right in that this is the kind of stuff we should be noticing. Biden is going to do this more and more once he’s in office. It’s like a parade of crazy people, running for the presidency. Woo hoo!

I’m guessing you’re a Republican supporter and I think you’re missing the point in your determination to peg Biden as crazy.
I’m sure you know what happened to Kennedy. Could it be possible that Biden is simply suggesting the same attempts may be made on Obama’s life? I think so. That’s what he meant by “generated crisis”. A crisis that is created, perhaps by a non-supporter.
Don’t pretend there aren’t people out there who would want Obama dead just for the color of his skin, let alone for his platform. Next time, maybe you should think it through before making a wholly biased statement such as “Biden’s crazy” and try to understand where someone is coming from.
And as for Sarah Palin, do you honestly think that, in a worst case scenerio, she would be able to run America? Just a question, and of course you’re entitled to believe what you will.
I’m just an outsider looking in…

Steve Cave, I’m guessing you aren’t old enough to remember the Kennedy years. Youth was “riding high” as they are now in the Obama campaign. Young people wore campaign buttons that said “I can’t vote, can you? Will you? Vote for Kennedy” I’m inspired that youth is inspired now, as I was then. But little did we know then what danger the future held! I think Biden intended to make young people aware and remind older people not to be over-confident, to watch our back, maybe to not be as fearless as we were then, no matter who is elected this year.

I agree with thecandian. I am concerned that some idiot will try to assassinate Obama if he is elected. Several whacko organizations have already publicly stated that they would do so.

But I am even more concerned that McCain would be elected, sadly pass away, and oh my God, we would have Palin as president. THAT in itself would be a major crisis.

I think Biden was trying to emphasize what challenges could lay ahead for Obama, not that he is inept or will create crisis.
